Stop YELLING

This painting describes the situation between Precious and her mother, Mary. She says and shouts many things to her that is thoughtful and hurtful.

Precious

I choose this picture because I think this shows an important side of a human. The outside is not always what is look like. The painting shows a girl who is decayed and cries behind the mask, but the mask shows a smiling and "happy" face. I think the message is to show that eventhough people may seem happy, they put a facade on = the mask. The mask is set on when there are people surrounded. It is not easy to show our real feelings to other people because we are afraid of the reactions. We are afraid to be an outsider in society.

By Charlene Pereira e Rebello: Interpretation
You can compare Precious and the girl in the picture. You can say that Precious is scared of telling strangers about her situation, because she is afraid of what her mother may do to her, if she tells anyone. If she tells the social worker, that she has been raped, and that her mother hits her, then she and her mother will not get welfare anymore, and they depend on the welfare-money, because they can't live without the money. But she knows that they can't really do anything about it anyway, and Precious do not think, that the social worker is able to help her with her problems. You can also see that the girl is crying, and that she is afraid. Precious is a strong girl, but she is crying inside. She keeps all of her problems to herself.

Precious

I'm not hiding anymore - Sandra Knego.

This picture describes a powerful suffering. You can compare this picture to Precious' life in the beginning of the film, because she was depressed and it was like she tried to hide her feelings - just like the woman on the picture.
