IRA and Sinn Fein


The IRA

The IRA was an armed movement in Ireland who fought against the British supremacy. They wanted Ireland to be an independent republic. They were of the belief, that political violence was necessary to achieve their goals. The original IRA was formed in 1917. After the peace treaty in 1997 their role as an armed organisation has ceased, and they are now presented by Sinn Fein who only use political power.

Sinn Fein
The Sinn Fein was a organisation that was founded in 1905 by a guy called Arthur Griffith. It was a party active throughout Ireland. It took its current form in 1970 after a split within the party (with the other side becoming the workers party of Ireland and has been historically associated with the provisional Irish republican army (Ira). The president for the organisation is Gerry Adams and he has been the President since 1983 Sinn Féin is a major party in both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland . It is the largest nationalist party in the Northern Ireland assembly , and the second-largest overall, holding only one seat less than the Democratic Unionist Party; it has four ministerial posts in the power-sharing Northern Ireland Executive. It holds eight of Northern Ireland's 18 seats at Westminster, the second-largest bloc after the DUP. It is the third-largest party in the Oireachtas, the parliament of the Republic of Ireland.

Sinn Fein is a Irish political party. It was founded in 1905 by Arthur Griffith. It is a mayor party in both Ireland and Northern Ireland, and is the biggest nationalist party in Northern Ireland. Gerry Adams has been party president since 1983. Sinn Fein want's to combine Ireland and Northern Ireland to one assembly, and be one big republic independent from England. The IRA also called Irish republic army, is any of several armed movements in Ireland.

The IRA is any of several movements in Ireland. They believed that all of Ireland should be an independent republic. It was also characterized by the belief that political violence was necessary to achieve that goal.    
The IRA do not want to be a part of Great Britain, because they wanted to give the catholics better circumstitions. They had a co-operation with Sinn Fein.
